When the Indian independence movement was at its peak, it was
Shri. Rajarambapu Patil (1920-1984), who being active in the movement, thought of the post-independence scenario in the independent India. He felt it very necessary and urgent that rural India should get educated to a maximum extent if India were to hold her head high after independence. Rajarambapu followed the principle ‘Think Globally, Act Locally’ and established a school. ‘Azad Vidyalaya’ in 1945 at his native place, Kasegaon in Walwa Taluka of Sangli District in Western Maharashtra. This was the birth of the ‘Kasegaon Education Society’. KES was registered as a Society under the Society’s Registration Act XXI of 1860 and was further registered as a Trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.

About KES Education Society

It was the time, when spreading education was the biggest task. It could be either by starting schools where it was possible or by providing teachers where schools were located. In 1950, Sarvodaya Vastigruha, a hostel was started at Kasegaon and the elements of society who were deprived of education for years together could see the light of hope. Sarvodaya Vastigruha soon flooded with students from every corner of Maharashtra. In the next two decades, Rajarambapu initiated seven secondary schools and one Arts, Commerce and Science College at nearby places like Wategaon, Peth, Sakharale, Islampur, Tambave, Kapuskhed, Bahe and Ashta. The next two decades were spent on strengthening the academic and nurturing the social mind for receiving quality education. India was then entering the era of technology in a true sense and Maharashtra’s leaders took it as a message that it was their earliest task to provide young technocrats to the Nation. Kasegaon Education Society was among the first few organisations to start an un-aided engineering college as early as 1983. However, it was very unfortunate that Shri. Rajarambapu Patil left for his heavenly abode the very next year.

The Kasegaon Education Society has now entered the second phase of its development. In the next two decades after Rajarambapu’s sad demise, Society again made remarkable progress in terms of growth and quality under the dynamic leadership of his son Shri. Jayant Patil, one of the foremost promising mass leaders of NCP Maharashtra. The number of schools rose from 7 to 28. While identifying the need for English Medium Education, ‘Vidyaniketan English Medium School’ was started at Rajaramnagar in 1980 which imparts education from pre-primary to secondary level. The College of Engineering, later renamed as ‘Rajarambapu Institute of Technology’ turned into the brand ambassador of the Society. In 1985, an Arts, Commerce & Science College was started at Kasegaon and one of the dreams of Rajarambapu could materialize. In 1989, Kanya Mahavidyalaya which was later renamed ‘Kusumtai Rajarambapu Patil Kanya Mahavidyalaya Islampur’ was established. Responding to the IT revolution in the late 90’s Rajarambapu Institute of Information Technology was initiated. The branches at Sangli, Rajaramnagar and Ratnagiri ranked highest in the Nation in spreading computer literacy through C-DAC, for consecutive two years. Our Society has also provided education to the TRIBAL and RURAL children by starting three high schools in a very remote area of the then Thane and now Palghar District of Maharashtra State in 1994 without any help from the Govt. where all the students belong to the scheduled tribes only. Rajarambapu Institute of Nursing, Islampur (2004), Rajarambapu College of Pharmacy, Kasegaon (2006), and RIT Polytechnic at Lohegaon Pune (2009) have added value to the directions of professional education that Kasegaon Education Society has been delivering. As a next step to enrich our goals, we started one of our ambitious projects in 2011 i.e. “Ascend International School (AIS)”, an English Medium School, at Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. AIS is the very first of its kind in India, which delivers a rigorous and collaborative 21st-century education where students discover a lifelong love of learning. Past decades of its service to society, the Kasegaon Education Society is proud of its past and is looking forward to a bright future.
